current series at mhcucc:

Sacred Earth, Sacred Worth

This  six-week worship series that will explore Creation Spirituality. More than just a focus on the act of creation, this spirituality, developed by Catholic theologian Matthew Fox, affirms God’s declaration that creation is supremely good and that we are called to be that goodness in and for the world.

Creation Spirituality celebrates four paths relating to our experience with God, which we will weave into worship each week:

  • Recognizing the inherent goodness of all creation, including our own potential for good
  • Befriending dark places and times in our lives as fodder for the birth of new life
  • Celebrating divine creativity and our role as co-creators with God
  • Embodying compassion and power to bring more wholeness and justice to the world

In this series we will explore six essential ideas found in Creation Spirituality that compel us to lead lives of spiritual inquiry, creativity, and prophetic action. We will focus each week on the following:

  • August 9 – Creation as Blessing
  • August 16 – Spirit of Compassion
  • August 23 – The Paths of Life
  • August 30 – Sacred Creative Vocation
  • September 6 – Glorious Diversity
  • September 13 – Healing Relationships

Our service will begin with a reflection on the elements of creation. To prepare for worship, please gather a candle and a small bowl of water. You are also invited to stop by the church anytime Saturday or in the coming week to pick up a small cup of dirt with seeds planted in it so that you can watch your plant grow over the weeks of this series.
